A Night of Jazz with Earth Wind and Fire's Bobby Burns Jr. & Jazz Fundraising Dinner by Cartwright's Ranch House

The Denton High School Jazz Bands will be presenting Earth Wind and Fire's own Bobby Burns Jr., in "A Tribute to Earth Wind and Fire" with special guest appearances by the Calhoun and McMath Middle School Jazz Bands and the Texas Woman's University Jazz Band. The 7:30pm performance will take place April 16th at the Denton High School Auditorium, 1007 Fulton Street, Denton, TX 76201. Tickets may be purchased by visiting www.dentonjazz.org. Online tickets are $5 students/seniors and $10 general admission. At the door tickets are $7 students/seniors and $12 general admission. A portion of the ticket sales will benefit the Denton Community Health Clinic, which provides affordable and accessible healthcare in the Denton community.

Bobby Burns, Jr., joined Earth Wind and Fire in March of 2004. His performance credits with the band include the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize award show, American Idol, a performance for President Barack Obama at the White House, two Super Bowl shows, the Grammy Awards show, and countless others. Presently, Bobby continues to tour with Earth Wind and Fire performing and traveling over 200 days a year.

"I am really excited to be part of the DISD music education program and am looking forward to performing with Denton’s highly talented students,” said Burns. “I hope this experience will educate and grow ambitious musicians.”

There will also be a fundraising dinner an hour before the concert to support the Denton High School Jazz Bands and their Women Jazz Composers Project, which will commission jazz works by female composers in the 2013-2014 school year. The dinner will be catered by Denton’s own Cartwright’s Ranch House and will serve chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, fried okra, hot rolls and homemade desserts. Tickets can be purchased at the door, www.dentonjazz.org, or at the Denton High School front office. The dinner will take place in the Denton High School cafeteria.

Manny Guerrero is the director of the Calhoun Middle School Jazz Band. Travis Harris is the director of the McMath Jazz Band, which is the current National Champion of the Mark of Excellence Jazz Honors.
